Following the draw for the Tailteann Cup which took place at lunchtime, we now know our opponents for the three group stage games in the competition.
The opening round of games takes place on the weekend of May 13/14 and as top seeds we will have a home fixture, with our opponents being third seeds Tipperary. Tipperary are of course coached by Sean Barry who coached St. Colmcille’s last year and he has previously managed Meath teams including when being manager of the U-21’s in 2014 when we were in the Leinster Final.
The second round will take place a week later and we will be on the road for a visit to Waterford. With Walsh Park currently out of commission, this game is likely to be played in Fraher Field in Dungarvan. We last played Waterford in Championship football on July 4 2009.
We then have two weeks before the third and final game in the round robin series and that fixture against Down will take place at a neutral venue on the June Bank Holiday weekend. We last played Down in the Championship in 2007 when coming away from Páirc Esler in the qualifiers.
