Will it be Dunboyne or Trim who progress to the last 8?
Will it be Dunboyne or Trim who progress to the last 8?

After the high drama that we witnessed on Friday evening, could we have something similar this evening (Saturday) as we have eight more games down for decision across the Meath Football Championships.  The permutations might not be the same as Friday evening but there will be no doubt what venue all eyes will be on in the Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship as St. Peter’s Dunboyne and Trim meet in a winner takes all battle in Summerhill.

All fixtures on Saturday evening have a 18:30 throw in time.

This evenings games are all ticket and are priced as follows.

  • General Admission – €10
  • Student/OAP – €5
  • Children U-16 accompanied by an adult attend for free.

Tickets for all games can be purchased via the Meath GAA App which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store.

The other game in Group B of the Senior Championship has little at stake with Simonstown already assured of their place in the last eight as table toppers while Seneschalstown have begun preparations for their latest battle to avoid the drop, knowing they will be entering the draw on Monday evening having come fourth in the group.

The Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship also sees Group B draw to a conclusion and while the promotion and relegation slots are already confirmed here, the games will decide who comes where in the groups with seedings for the draws on Monday at stake.  Duleek-Bellewstown and Castletown meet in Stamullen with the winners guaranteeing themselves top spot while a draw would suffice for 2022 JFC winners Castletown thanks to their vastly superior score difference.

The bottom of the table clash somewhat surprisingly features a St. Michael’s side who were quietly fancied to go well in the Championship after an impressive League campaign.  They come up against Blackhall Gaels who find themselves pointless despite two encouraging displays.  Neither will want to go into the dreaded relegation playoffs off the back of three successive losses so this is sure to be one game to keep a close eye on.

In the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accomodation Junior Football Championship, a late change of venue for Ballinlough and St. Vincent’s game sees the prodigal son return to Cortown as Conn Cleary makes his return to the club as Ballinlough manager.  His Ballinlough side have made an encouraging start to the competition and a win here would leave them very well placed in advance of the final round.  For St. Vincent’s, the outlook is simple, a win puts them right back in the mix for honours while a defeat would leave them on the precipice of elimination.

There is an utterly fascinating local derby taking place on the Cavan/Monaghan border at 18:30 as near neighbours Drumconrath and Kilmainhamwood meet in Meath Hill in the Coolrite sponsored Junior B Football Championship.  The men from ‘The Wood’ have made a blistering start to the Championship and sit atop of the table with a maximum six points from three games.  Could their recent revival at juvenile level be about to bear fruit in the adult grade?  Drumconrath have also impressed even if their results have been a tad more mixed.  They have combined Round 1 and Round 3 wins with a narrow Round 2 loss to St. Mary’s but will surely be relishing this encounter and a chance to take down one of their nearest and dearest neighbours.

Group B also features a local derby as Carnaross and Moynalty meet in Grangegodden.  Adding spice to this one is the fact that former Carnaross player Stephen Dawson is now a key cog in the backroom team for Moynalty.  These players will know each other inside out with the two clubs forming a longstanding Independent Team at juvenile level.  Moynalty have gotten off to an impressive start with two victories to date from two games but the opposite is the cast for Carnaross as they have two losses to their name from both of their games.  On form it is hard to look past Moynalty but in a local derby form can often go out the window.  The ample car parking spaces in Grangegodden could come under pressure for this game with a large crowd expected.

The other match in this group sees the two sides at the top of the table meeting in Dunsany.  Slane have two wins and a loss to their name from three games while Boardsmill have two victories from two outings.  Which of these sides will take a major step towards potentially topping the table when the dust settles and who will be facing into a battle royale to secure their place in the knockout stages?
