The weekend of October 7/8 has long been marked on the calendar for gaels throughout the county and as it gets ever closer, we have this morning received confirmation of the fixture details from the Meath Competitions Control Committee (CCC) for the four adult football championship finals which will be played that weekend.
The Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship takes centre stage on Sunday October 8 when Summerhill and Ratoath meet in a repeat of the 2022 decider at 14:15. Will Ratoath come out on top again this year or will Summerhill finally break the door down and claim the Keegan Cup for the first time since 2013?
There is a triple header of action in Páirc Tailteann on the Saturday with games throwing in at 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. First up is the Coolrite sponsored Junior B Football Championship Final at noon with Slane looking to go one better than last year when they were defeated by St. Brigid’s while Moynalty who were relegated from Junior A in 2022 are looking to bounce back at the first time of asking.
The second game sees Kilbride aiming to win the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation Junior Football Championship for the first time since 1960 and they will take on Clann na nGael at 14:00, with Clann na nGael looking to get their hands on the Peter McDermott Cup for the first time since 2019 when they required a replay to defeat Moylagh.
The Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship Final that day will be the third and final game of the triple header at 16:00 and that sees another side looking to atone for defeat at the final hurdle twelve months ago. On that occasion Duleek-Bellewstown lost out to Dunshaughlin who went on to contest the Leinster Final and this year they will take on Rathkenny. Both sides impressed in their semi-final victories and this could provide a thrilling conclusion to the days action.
The Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship Relegation Final between the longest serving team in Senior Footballl in Skryne and Moynalvey will be held in Walterstown on Sunday October 8 at 11:15. Will that proud record for Skryne be still intact by the end of the game?
Dunderry who have been experiencing something of an annus horribilis meet Longwood in the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship Relegation Final, with that game also taking place on Sunday October 8 at 11:15. Boardsmill is the venue for this game.
There is a meeting of near neighbours St. Ultan’s and Kilmainham in the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation Junior Football Championship Final under the floodlights on Friday October 6 in Cortown. For whom will the lights go out on their time in the Junior Championship?
The Meath Cleaning Supplies Premier Football Championship Division.2 Final between Summerhill and Wolfe Tones takes place in Paddy O’Brien Park on Friday October 6. Will Summerhill go one better than last year when they lost out in the final?
Two LMFM Minor Football Championship Finals have also been scheduled for that weekend. The curtain raiser to the Senior decider will be the Division 1 Final which sees St. Colmcille’s taking on St. Peter’s Dunboyne. The Dunboyne players are looking to pick up leg one of what would be a famous double for they are in the hurling final a week later. Throw in is at 11:45. The Division 2 Final will see Trim taking on either Oldcastle or Killary Emmets in Skryne on Friday October 6 at 19:00, with the Liam Tolan Cup on offer for the winners.
