There is a curtailed programme of games today (Saturday) in the Hurling Championships with just three games on the cards after the JM Food Services Intermediate Hurling Championship game between Donaghmore/Ashbourne and St. Peter’s Dunboyne fell by the wayside. There are two games going ahead in the IHC and one fixture in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear Senior Hurling Championship.
Kildalkey and Dunderry have a win and a loss apiece to their names after two rounds with both sides having lost out to Trim, Kildalkey in the opening round and Dunderry last week. They meet at 18:00 in Athboy and after their confidence boosting win over Kilmessan last weekend, Kildalkey will be confident of picking up a second win and pushing towards booking a place in the knockout stages. Can Dunderry, whose confidence will have been hit by that heavy defeat last week, bounce back with a win?
In the JM Food Services Intermediate Hurling Championship, the Group A action sees a local derby in Kilskyre when Navan O’Mahonys and Wolfe Tones who until recently had joined forces at juvenile level meet. O’Mahonys are unbeaten thus far with two wins from two games while Wolfe Tones have the opposite record with two defeats from two games. Can the ‘Tones pick up a much needed win or will the O’Mahonys bandwagon pick up pace? St. Peter’s Dunboyne are unable to field in the second Group A game and have conceded the points to Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
The Group B fixture sees Boardsmill who many fancy to go all the way in the Championship coming up against St. Patrick’s who have made the leap up two grades in two years from Junior 2 in 2022 to Intermediate this year. Boardsmill are another side who have a 100% record after two games, a record which is built more on their defensive acumen than their ability to rack up big scores. St. Patrick’s have been finding the air thin up the grades and will need to tighten up defensively if they are to pick up the points in Dunsany.
