Following on from some eye-catching performances and results on Thursday evening, the Round 2 action in the Club Football Championships continues this evening with six games spread across the Fairyhouse Steel SFC, Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation JFC and the Coolrite JBFC.

Donaghmore/Ashbourne bounced back from a disappointing showing on the opening weekend when they racked up a very impressive tally of 1-21 when defeating Dunshaughlin in Ratoath. Much of the damage was done in the opening period when the victors built up a. 0-15 to 0-08 lead, racking up a host of two-pointers when backed by the elements.
The Group A game in Tony Callaghan Park proved to be a rather one-sided affair as Rathkenny cruised to the win over Kilbride. With score difference possibly going to decide their fate at the culmination of the group, Rathkenny pushed hard throughout and never relented as they won out by nineteen points.
The Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship game in Ballinlough saw Oldcastle back up their impressive opening round win over Castletown with an even more impressive dismantling of Ballivor as they ran out winners by nineteen points.
The two games in the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation Junior Football Championship saw neighbouring clubs Slane and St. Mary’s claim the spoils over St. Ultan’s and Nobber respectively.

The game between Trim and Ratoath this evening in Group B of the Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship could very well decide top spot with both sides coming in off the back of opening round victories a fortnight ago.
Trim accounted for Na Fianna in Summerhill on a night when Aaron Lynch gave a masterclass but overall Ken Robinson’s side will feel that they still have much room for improvement off the back of that display. James Toher missed that game through injury and while he is named at centre back there must be big questions about his availability considering he also missed the hurlers defeat to Kilmessan last weekend.
If Ratoath manage to shut down the attacking threat of Lynch, where might the Trim scores come from? Eoin O’Connor looked lively for long spells in that Na Fianna game and he is capable of creating havoc while Tom Carmody was sprung from the bench that day and while he was receiving strict instructions throughout that he wasn’t to be caught as part of the three up, he is capable of doing damage if given the opportunity inside.
There are few more physically imposing half back lines in the Senior Championship than that which Ratoath possess with Ben Wyer flanked by Rob Hayes and Gavin McGowan. If this trio can put the roadblocks up for the Trim runners then this will go a long way towards securing the spoils for Kevin Daly’s side.
If the clash between Jack Flynn and Ciaran Caulfield comes to pass in the middle of the field then it will be an intriguing duel between two players with contrasting styles. Flynn’s game is based off power and high fielding whereas Caulfield is somebody who glides around the pitch. The winner of this could decide where the points go.
The second game in the Fairyhouse Steel sponsored SFC takes place in Seneschalstown where St. Colmcille’s and Bhulf Tón CLG come into opposition and ahead of this game the biggest talking point is the absence of star forward James Conlon for the ‘Cilles.
Conlon picked up a knock in the second half of their opening round win over Seneschalstown and it is believed that this has ruled him out of this encounter.
In his absence much of the scoring onus is likely to fall upon the shoulders of young Cormac O’Donoghue and he did excel in that opening round win. David Bell moves inside from the half forward line to occupy the full forward berth and if he hits form then Bell is capable of leading the attack with menace.
With Bhulf Tón ClG, it’s a case of what you see is what you get. They are a physically imposing side, tight at the back and with potential match winners littered across their forward line.
Shane Glynn has long been peerless at full back, Sean Penny brings an attacking dash at wing back and they’ve two monsters in midfield in the form of Adam O’Neill and Eoin Donegan. Up Front, Oisín Martin, Sarán Ó Fionnagáin and Tom Gavigan are potential match winners and Thomas O’Reilly makes everything tick for the men from the Gaeltacht.
