Local Derby tops the billing on Saturday of Round 2

The programme of games on the Saturday of Round 2 in the Club Hurling Championships is a small one but it no less appetising with some excellent matches anticipated across the Senior, Intermediate and Intermediate B grades.

The offering in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship is a fascinating one as we are treated to a local derby between Kilmessan and Kiltale in St. Loman’s Park, Trim.  Kilmessan came away from the opening round with a draw against reigning champions Ratoath and they will face a tough test against a Kiltale side that defeated Kildalkey in an impressive manner two weeks ago.

Kiltale are currently the form side in the county off the back of winning the JLD Access Hurling League title a month ago and there are few clubs who could claim to have a stronger spine to their defensive unit than the John Donoghue managed outfit with SHane McGann in goals, Iarla Hughes at full back and Philip Garvey manning the centre back berth.  Throw in the likes of Mark O’Sullivan, James Kelly, Peter Durning and Jack Regan in the forward line and there is more than enough to build another Jubilee Cup winning side around.

Kilmessan are regarded by many as the coming team in Meath hurling and there is no doubting that they have the talent to launch themselves into the conversation for overall honours.

Kyle Donnelly had his inter-county season hampered by injuries but when fully fit there are few better defenders around than him and he anchors the defence at centre back where he is flanked by Kris Gorman and Alex Smyth.

When the likes of Lorcan Byrne, Darragh Horan, Sean Doyle and team captain Mark Horan catch fire then they are a hugely effective attacking unit and possess plenty of flair.

Can Kilmessan claim the local bragging rights and move on to three points or will Kiltale maintain their impressive form and move onto two wins from two games?
