The latest Meath GAA App Football Team of the Week sees thirteen players selected while once more there are players from every grade from Senior to Junior B.  Fourteen of the players are chosen for the first time.

  1. Luke McCarthy (Curraha) – Was very commanding under the high ball throughout against Dunshaughlin, coming out to deal with any balls dropping in or around the square and either fetching them commandingly or punching clear to great effect. Also pulled off an excellent save early on to deny Ruairi Kinsella a goal.
  2. Godfrey Ehichoya (St. Colmcille’s) – Godfrey turned in a typically tigerish display against Ratoath with his ability to stick limpet like to his opponent proving vital. Was an effective link man in bringing the ball out of defence.  Growing in stature in the St. Colmcille’s rear-guard.
  3. Jack McGowan (Trim) – Was good against Seneschalstown in Round 2 but was even better against St. Peter’s Dunboyne last weekend. Filling in admirably for the now absent Ger Dwane to the extent that the regular full back hasn’t yet been missed in the Trim defence.
  4. Adam Lynch (St. Colmcille’s) – The second St. Colmcille’s defender to make the team and it is a reflection of how effective their full back line was against the reigning county champions. Adam is a real leader in the defence and brings a quiet composure to their efforts.
  5. Brendan McKeon (Ballivor) – More noted as a hurler, Brendan is also an excellent footballer and against Longwood he turned in a typically excellent performance in Clonard. If they are to topple O’Mahonys in the quarter final, rest assured McKeon will have had an outstanding day.
  6. Daniel O’Neill (Wolfe Tones) – Daniel turned in a colossal performance at the heart of the Wolfe Tones defence against Ballinabrackey. Drove his side on throughout the hour and was also present to clear up any dangerous scenarios.  Arguably the form club centre back in the county.
  7. Conor Harford (St. Vincent’s) – Conor struggled with injury in 2022 and this was a significant factor in the Ardcath side being relegated from the Junior ranks. Turned in arguably his best performance of the season to date in their Round 4 win over Ballinlough.
  8. Jack Kinlough (St. Peter’s Dunboyne) – The 2021 All-Ireland Minor winner is steadily growing in importance to the Dunboyne side. Grew into the game against Trim the longer it went on and became a massively influential figure in the closing quarter.  Landed two points and along with Cathal Lacey was the leading light in almost dragging their side into the quarter finals.
  9. Gary Breslin (Meath Hill) – Was very unfortunate not to make the selection in Round 1 but such was the performance that Gary turned in against Bective, it was impossible not to include him this time around. Was a commanding figure around midfield and also chipped in with five points.  Having a standout season.
  10. John McDonnell (Duleek-Bellewstown) – Duleek-Bellewstown have been going about their business in the Junior B Championship with the minimal of fuss and once more on Saturday they picked up a win to go three from three in the group stages. Central to that win was the showing in the forward line of John who ended up with 1-05 in what was a brilliant display.
  11. Eanna Mooney (Slane) – Any player who scores four goals will prove very hard to leave off a Team of the Week selection and thus it proved for Eanna. Led the Boardsmill defence a merry dance and his good form will be crucial if Slane are to go one step further than in 2022.
  12. Josh Harford (Kilbride) – Another member of the Meath Minor class of 2021, Josh has had a tough time with injuries but showcased all of his abilities against Syddan when helping himself to a personal tally of a goal and six points. His ability to stay fit could prove crucial as Kilbride chase potential Junior glory.
  13. Brian O’Connell (Walterstown) – Brian has consistently been one of the top scorers in the Intermediate grade and he was once more in top form against Nobber in Slane. Brian finished the game with nine points, six of which came from play.  When in this kind of form, he is very difficult to stop.
  14. Jake Regan (Navan O’Mahonys) – Something of a veteran in the O’Mahonys side at this stage, Regan is as good as ever. Turned in a typically accomplished performance against Drumbaragh as he helped himself to six points.  An excellent focal point to their attack as well as being scorer in chief.
  15. Aaron Lynch (Trim) – Proved too hot to handle for the St. Peter’s Dunboyne attack, Aaron roamed all over the attacking third of the pitch. Ended up with five points but that only reflects part of his game as he pulled the Dunboyne full back line all over the pitch.  Looked likely to score a second half goal only for his progress towards the posts to be brought to a halt with a foul, something the defender had little option to do as Lynch left him in his wake.
