Who will join Blackhall Gaels in the quarter finals?

Group B of the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship reaches its conclusion this evening and there is plenty to play for across all the games with qualification for the quarter finals at play as well as relegation to Intermediate at stake.  It’s a pivotal evening where seasons will be made and broken all in the space of an hours action.

The Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear SHC and JM Food Services IHC games are all ticket and are priced as follows.
  • General Admission – €10
  • Student/OAP – €5
  • Children U-16 accompanied by an adult attend for free.
Tickets for all the SHC & IHC games can be purchased via the Meath GAA App which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store

Blackhall Gaels are safely through to the quarter finals in two weeks time but it isn’t yet clear whether they will qualify in first or second place.  At present they top the group with a two point margin but they know a defeat to a St. Peter’s Dunboyne side fighting for their lives to survive in the senior grade could leave them vulnerable to Clann na nGael who trail them by two points on the table.  Clann na nGael have an inferior score difference by a total of two points but a win for them coupled with a defeat for Dunboyne would see that at the very least wiped out.

They themselves play a Dunderry team who are also scrapping for their survival and the Tommy Leavy managed side will not want to drop back to the Intermediate ranks after just twelve months playing Senior.  Dunderry have a marginally better score difference to Dunboyne and also have the head to head advantage having beaten them in Round 3 but while they appear to hold a decent hand entering this evening’s final round of fixtures, anything can happen and they will need a win to be sure of maintaining their current status.

The other game in the group sees Kilmessan and Longwood meeting in Rathmolyon and here both sides know that a win for them coupled with a Clann na nGael loss against Dunderry would see them qualify for the quarter finals in two weeks time.  A draw coupled with a Clann na nGael loss is likely not to be of any use to either side such is the superior score difference held by Clann na nGael.

Hold onto your hats, it’s sure to be a heck of a ride this evening.

The K Windows & Doors Junior Hurling Championship also sees the concluding round being played this evening with all games throwing in at 18:00.

St. Patrick’s and Kildalkey are tied on six points apiece after four games but crucially St. Patrick’s hold the edge on the head to head rule having defeated Kildalkey in Round 3.  That victory could prove to be crucial when the final sums are being calculated as the top team progresses directly to the final while the teams in second and third will have to make do with meeting in the semi-final.

St. Patrick’s have a tricky looking game away to Kiltale this evening, with Kiltale knowing a win would put them firmly in contention for a knockout place, likely a semi-final.  The other game of interest to the knockout placings is that involving Kildalkey and Killyon who meet in Killyon.  The home side trail Kildalkey by a point in the League standings but a win would see them leapfrog this evenings opponents.  The third fixture sees Drumree host Ratoath in a local derby with the winners avoiding the drop to Junior 2.  Ratoath have the comfort blanket of a superior score difference should it be a draw and would stay Junior by virtue of this.
