The middle round of group stage action in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim SHC and the JM Food Services IHC have concluded and the groups are beginning to take their shape ahead of the final two rounds.
In Group A of the Senior Hurling Championship, Trim are well positioned to finish top of the table and book their passage direct to the semi-finals after overcoming a sluggish opening half against Clann na nGael to run out eight point winners, thus preserving their 100% record to date. Kildalkey and Kilmessan hold the second and third positions and will be confident of securing their place in the knockout stages.
Ratoath and Kiltale look likely to have a gripping battle ahead to see who finishes top of the table on score difference providing neither slip up in the concluding two rounds. But who joins them is up for grabs and there could be a battle royale between Killyon and Longwood to decide that position with Sean Coloe’s last gasp equaliser today potentially being very significant.
In Group A of the IHC, Navan O’Mahonys made the most of their numerical advantage for the majority of the game against Wolfe Tones on Saturday in Kilskyre to record a huge win over their neighbours and Donaghmore/Ashbourne were awarded the points after St. Peter’s Dunboyne were unable to field. On Sunday, Gaeil Colmcille produced their best performance of the Championship to date when accounting for the challenge of Drumree with their wind assisted superb first half showing proving crucial.
Group B saw Rathmolyon record a brilliant win over Kildalkey on Sunday at lunchtime in Dunderry, with goals from Darren Hennessy, Kevin Mulligan and Arthur Doyle proving vital. This result leaves them on six points from three games along with Boardsmill who came good in the second half on Saturday to defeat an improving St. Patrick’s side. The most comprehensive win of the weekend in this group came on Friday in Boardsmill when Kilskyre/Moylagh picked up a first win of the Championship when taking care of the Trim challenge.
