Thrilling Saturday awaits in the Meath Hurling Championships

The meeting of Ratoath and Kildalkey in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship is the centrepiece on what is set to be a thrilling Saturday of action, with some very interesting games also down for decision in the Abbey Pharmacy Intermediate Hurling Championships too.

Ratoath haven’t caught fire to date in this year’s Championship but come into this game knowing that a victory would leave them in a strong position to claim a place in the knockout stages and in the process, leave Kildalkey knocked out of the competition.

The two-time reigning champions have reshuffled their defensive line-up with Darragh Kelly dropping back to full back from his more regular centre back berth and Ben McGowan going in the opposite direction.  Kelly is likely to come up against Patrick Potterton on the edge of the square and if Potterton can get the upper-hand then that would be a major boon for the men from the Village.

As ever, much of the attacking threat for Kildalkey will come from team captain Nicky Potterton while they will look to Patrick Conneely who is operating in the half forward line to pull the strings as playmaker.  If Conneely can hit his top form then Kildalkey will have every chance in this encounter.

But as ever with Ratoath, much will come down to their attacking sextet who possess a devastating threat when operating at their best.  Rob Hayes and Daithí McGowan are man mountains at wing forward and on the forty, Padraig O’Hanrahan is a magician at his best.

This is likely to come down to the wire and a fascinating contest lies in store.  Fingers crossed, the weather clears up and we get to witness the best that these two sides have to offer.
