Tailteann Cup – Meath v Waterford Information

A week on from opening the Tailteann Cup campaign with a home victory over Tipperary in Páirc Tailteann, Meath are on the road to Fraher Field in Dungarvan on Saturday evening for a first Championship meeting with Waterford since 2009 for our Round 2 fixture.  For many Meath gaels it will be a first visit to Fraher Field for a game involving their county and we look forward to seeing a big travelling support on the south coast for the game.

There were three debuts handed out in the opening round victory last Saturday as Colm O’Rourke continues to blood a number of new players in the Meath jersey and with a number of the U-20 panel having joined up with the Senior panel in recent weeks, the potential for further debuts over the course of the Tailteann Cup is a live one.

That 2009 encounter took place on Saturday July 4 when Meath won out by 1-20 to 0-08, having led by 0-12 to 0-02 at the half time interval. Cian Ward top scored that evening with 0-04, all of which came from frees.  Stephen Bray, a selector with the current panel, missed out on the game through injury.  Meath lined out as follows.

Meath:  Paddy O’Rourke; Chris O’Connor (0-03); Anthony Moyles; Eoghan Harrington; Seamus Kenny; Cormac McGuinness (0-02); Caoimhín King; Nigel Crawford; Brian Meade; Peadar Byrne (0-02); Joe Sheridan (0-03); Shane McAnarney (0-01); David Bray (0-03, 0-02F); Brian Farrell (0-02); Cian Ward (0-04, 0-04F).

Substitutions:  Mickey Burke for P. Byrne, Barry Regan for C. McGuinness, Stephen Sheridan for A. Moyles, Jamie Queeney (1-00) for S. Kenny, Mark Ward for N. Crawford.

Tickets for the game on Saturday evening can be purchased here – Meath v Waterford Tickets or they can be purchased in selected Super Valu and Centra stores.
