Selection unveiled for U-20 opener

The opening round of the Dalata Hotels Group Leinster U-20 Football Championship takes place on Wednesday evening and the Meath selection to take on Dublin has been unveiled.

Three players who started the All-Ireland semi-final against Kerry last May will line out in the starting selection as Eamonn Armstrong lines out at midfield, Rian Stafford at wing forward and Jamie Murphy takes his place at full forward.

The team will be captained on Wednesday by Tadgh Martyn from the Slane club and he is one of three members of the club who are on the match day panel.  Matthew Kealy lines out between the uprights and Braydon Colfer is the replacement goalkeeper.

Lining out in front of Kealy in the full back line are Sam Jordan, Rian Early and Ciaran O’Hare.  O’Hare takes over the no.4 jersey from his older brother Sean who lined out there for that All-Ireland semi-final ten months ago.

John Gormley makes it an all Gaeil Colmcille spine to the defence as he lines out at centre back and Gormley will be flanked by team captain Tadgh Martyn and Finn White from Kilbride.

At midfield, the combination is from neighbouring clubs with Eamonn Armstrong joined by Michael McIvor. Lining out in the half forward line are Rian Stafford, John Harkin and Cian Commons who missed out on the latter stages of the 2024 Championship after picking up an injury.

The inside forward line sees Jamie Murphy at full forward and he will be partnered by Ben Corkery at top of the right and Liam Jennings at left corner forward.
