Relegation Battles and Quarter Final get weekend action underway

A busy weekend of action in the Club Football Championships throws in at 20:00 with three games scheduled for Thursday evening. There are relegation playoffs in the Fairyhouse Steel SFC and Meade Farm IFC as well as a quarter final in the Coolrite JBFC.

Curraha struggled during the group stage of the Fairyhouse Steel SFC and finished with three defeats from three games but they possess plenty of talent and always pull a performance out of the bag when they most require one.  Trim got off to a brilliant start with a comeback win over Rathkenny on the opening weekend but things went downhill thereafter as injuries took their toll and two defeats followed.

In the Meade Farm IFC, many tipped St. Patrick’s to be potential champions but an opening day defeat to a rampant Oldcastle coupled with a heartbreaking last gasp loss to Moynalvey on the middle weekend put paid to those aspirations and consigned them to the relegation dogfight.  Walterstown on the other hand were electric in the second half of their Round 1 win over Navan O’Mahonys but fell to defeat in both subsequent games.  Which of these sides will come away this evening with their status intact and who will have to rise themselves for the dreaded semi-finals in two weeks?

The opening game of the Coolrite JBFC quarter finals pits form side Carnaross up against Cortown in Carlanstown.  Carnaross have been racking up huge tallies to date while Cortown have struggled.  Cortown will have to perform well above anything they’ve showd to date in the Championship if they are to progress to the last four.
