Opening weekend of SFC & IFC action draws to conclusion

The All-Ireland Final might be the showpiece game on the GAA Calendar today but there is no shortage of club action to keep Meath Gaels happy with six games across the Fairyhouse Steel SFC, Meade Farm IFC, Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accomodation JFC and Coolrite JBFC to look forward to while the Meath Cleaning Supplies Premier Football Championship Divisions 1 & 2 get underway.

This evenings game are all ticket and are priced as follows.

  • General Admission – €10
  • Student/OAP – €5
  • Children U-16 accompanied by an adult attend for free.

Tickets for all games can be purchased via the Meath GAA App which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Eastern Gaels play their second ever game when they face the challenge posed by Kilmainhamwood in Rathkenny at 11:15.  Their opening fixture proved to be a challenging hour and they will be looking to build upon the positives gleaned from that defeat to Cortown in the Coolrite Junior B Football Championship opening round in advance of what is sure to be another tough test for the newly formed club.

In the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accomodation Junior Football Championship, St. Ultan’s and Clann na nGael meet in what is a repeat of their recent League Final.  On that occasion it was the Niall McLoughlin managed Clann na nGael who emerged victorious but can St. Ultan’s turn the tables today?  The other Junior Championship fixture sees Moylagh take on St. Vincent’s.  The Ardcath side were disappointed with their performance against St. Brigid’s and know a second defeat could leave them in a spot of bother.

Rathkenny are many peoples fancy for the Meade Farm IFC and they open their campaign against Drumbaragh Emmets at noon in Nobber.  They have lost key men such as Caolach Halligan and Robert Garry from 2022 and Drumbaragh will be eyeing up a chance to turn their fancied opponents over.  The second IFC fixture sees Meath Hill who enjoyed an excellent League campaign open up against Dunderry at 19:00 in Castletown.

The eighth and final Fairyhouse Steel SFC game of the weekend sees Na Fianna and Curraha meet in Batterstown at 19:00, a fixture sure to be the destination of choice for Meath folk heading home from Croke Park.  Curraha have named a very strong half forward line and if this trio line out as selected then how Na Fianna cope with their influence will have a key bearing on the result.  Shane Walsh continues to miss out for the Enfield/Baconstown outfit but they are boosted by the inclusion of new recruit Sean Hurley on the replacements bench.
