Minor selection unveiled for Kinnegad showdown

The Electric Ireland Leinster Minor Football Championship gets underway on Wednesday and Meath face a short journey to Kinnegad where we meet neighbours Westmeath in a mouthwatering opening round fixture.

Stephen Morgan has unveiled his first match day panel for the Championship and there are two survivors from the team that played Longford in the opening round of 2022.  Cian Commons lined out at centrefield on that occasion with Michael McIvor at centre forward and on Wednesday evening they will form a strong midfield partnership.  Another member of the class of 2022 was Billy Smyth who was a panellist and he will line out on Wednesday at right half forward.

Team captain Eamon Armstrong who was recently selected on the Louth Lennon Cup All-Star side, captains the team from centre forward and he is flanked by Smyth and Rory Crawley.  The second of the Crawley brothers Patrick, lines out at top of the right with Manny Magno and Ben Corkery completing the full forward line.

The six defenders come from five clubs with Dunderry having the greatest representation in full back Oisín O’Neill and wing back Cormac Liggan.  Oliver Maloney from Walterstown and Ciaran O’Hare from Rathkenny hold down the corner back positions while in the half back line, Thomas Sheridan from Oldcastle anchors the defence with Patrick White lining out at left half back.
