The second of the three games in Round 3 of the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship games is the headline act on this middle weekend of the group stages in the Hurling Championships as age old rivals Kilmessan and Trim lock horns in Devenish Park, Dunganny while there is a fine support act of games in the Abbey Pharmacy Intermediate A & B Hurling Championships.

Trim have won their opening two games in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim SHC and looked very impressive in the second half of their victory over Kildalkey a fortnight ago when they dismantled the challenge of the side from The Village.
In the Clubber pick for Round 3 they come up against a Kilmessan side that drew with reigning champions Ratoath on the opening weekend and then cut loose against Kiltale in Round 2 when comfortably winning despite being profligate in front of the posts once more.
Trim have been the dominant side in the Minor grade for much of the last decade but they will feel the number of Senior Championship titles landed in the subsequent years has fallen short of where they would have envisaged. And in some years where they were the hot fancy to back those Minor titles up with U-21 success, they fell short against Kilmessan and this Kilmessan senior side is now backboned by many of the players who plundered those titles.
Can Kilmessan push on now and really challenge for the Jubilee Cup? They come into this game knowing that a group stage victory over Trim could be the statement result that sets them up as genuine contenders for the crown and if they can pull it off then they would have laid down a marker in the race to top the group and as a consequence, gain a direct path to the final rather than having to battle through a semi-final.
Much will come down to how their defence holds up against the Trim forwards and if Shane Brennan and Kyle Donnelly can dominate the middle passage then it will be a major boost but they will have their hands full should their expected match ups against the red hot Mikey Cole and James Murray come to pass.
