More than 6,000 children spent the summer diving into Gaelic football, hurling, and camogie across 49 venues in County Meath – and the buzz around the county says it all: this year’s Kellogg’s Cúl Camps were a resounding success!
Running camps at 49 venues is no small feat, yet the atmosphere at local clubs still felt friendly and familiar. Children were grouped by age and ability, which kept sessions lively for beginners and still challenging for the more seasoned players.
100 coaches, from across the county, managed to strike a balance between skill development and fun. Core skills – soloing, kicking, striking, handpassing and first touch – were built through short, high-energy activities, then reinforced in small-sided games. The result: lots of confidence building and ball-in-hand time.
Cúl Camps in Meath did well to welcome a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. In some places there was opportunity for an inter-club mix also, giving children a sense of the wider GAA community across the county and this was evident with a number of green jerseys on display to support our county teams over the summer.
Seeing 6,000 children on pitches from Kildalkey to Kilmainhamwood and Trim to Dunboyne is more than a summer success – it’s an investment in Meath’s sporting future. The camps seeded fundamental movement skills, teamwork and a love of Gaelic Games that clubs can build on all year.
Kellogg’s Cúl Camps delivered exactly what families hope for: safe, spirited, skill-rich days where children come home tired, happy and hungry to play again.
