Intermediate and Junior Hurling takes Centre Stage

The opening day of the Hurling Championship weekend sees four games on the schedule with two K Windows & Doors Junior Hurling Finals on offer as well as two Abbey Pharmacy Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi-Finals.

The Abbey Pharmacy Intermediate Hurling Championship Semi-Final sees Clann na nGael and Drumree clashing at 16:00 in Devenish Park, Dunganny to see who will progress to take on Rathmolyon in the decider in two weeks.

Clann na nGael got off to the worst possible start when losing out to Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Rathmolyon on the opening two weekend’s but bounced back to win their last three games to secure second place on the table.

Drumree by contrast won their opening two games before losing out in Rounds 3 and 5, with a victory in Round 4 sandwiched in between these two losses.

When the sides met in Round 5, it was Clann na nGael who edged a tight encounter, coming out on top by 1-18 to 0-19.

The curtain raiser in Devenish Park is the meeting of parish rivals Trim and Boardsmill when the sides clash in the Abbey Pharmacy Intermediate B Hurling Championship Semi-Final at 14:00.

These sides tied on seven points apiece, with Trim coming second by virtue of having defeated today’s opponents on the final day by four points.

Boardsmill will be highly motivated to not lose two games in a row to Trim and if they can get back to the form they showed when dismantling Kilmessan in Round 4 then they could have enough to take down Trim.

The K Windows & Doors Junior Hurling Championship Final sees St. Patrick’s and Kildalkey meeting at 16:00 in Ratoath. St. Patrick’s came second in Group B with two wins and one loss but turned in a fine showing in the last four to take down Ratoath.

Kildalkey also came second in their Group, another side with two wins and a loss, and they also came through an away semi-final against Drumree to book their place in today’s final.

The first of the days Junior Finals is the K Windows & Doors Junior B Championship Final in Kiltale as Dunderry and Donaghmore/Ashbourne go in search of glory.

Dunderry topped Group B with two wins as did Donaghmore/Ashbourne in Group D.

The men in black turned in a scintillating performance in the semi-final when coming away from Longwood with a twenty-five point win over the host club while Donaghmore/Ashbourne edged a much tighter affair when defeating Boardsmill by four points under the floodlights in their home grounds.
