Hurling Championship Round 2 – Saturday Team News

After the thrills and spills of the action on Friday evening, we have another action packed evening of action to look forward to this evening (Saturday) in the hurling championships with games spread across the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship, JM Food Services Intermediate Hurling Championship and the K Windows & Doors Junior Hurling Championship.

The Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear SHC and JM Food Services IHC games are all ticket and are priced as follows.

  • General Admission – €10
  • Student/OAP – €5
  • Children U-16 accompanied by an adult attend for free.

Tickets for all the SHC & IHC games can be purchased via the Meath GAA App which can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store

The K Windows & Doors JHC & J2HC games are pay at the gate and the admission fee is €5 per adult.

The results on Friday evening were as follows.

Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim SHC Group A

  • Kiltale (1-17) (0-15) Ratoath
  • Kildalkey (1-18) (0-09) Killyon

Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim SHC Group B

  • Kilmessan (0-21) (1-07) Dunderry
  • Clann na nGael (2-12) (0-10) St. Peter’s Dunboyne

JM Food Services IHC Group A

  • Boardsmill (1-15) (2-12) Drumree

The meeting of holders Trim and Na Fianna in Boardsmill in the Senior Hurling Championship looks like potentially being the tie of the evening.  Trim appear to have the edge on most sides in the county at present with the production line in the club operating at a high level as evidenced by their recent domination of the Minor Hurling Championship but Na Fianna are one of those sides that always seem to pose the toughest of questions for the Jimmy Canty managed outfit.  Could Na Fianna spring something of a surprise in Boardsmill or will Trim back up their impressive opening night victory over Kiltale.

Blackhall Gaels and Longwood is the other Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear Senior Hurling Championship fixture this evening and that game takes place at 18:30 in Kiltale.  These sides look evenly matched and there is likely only going to be a puck of the ball to separate them by the time Owen Ganly sounds the final whistle.

In the JM Food Services sponsored Intermediate Hurling Championship both Rathmolyon and Gaeil Colmcille are both looking to bounce back after disappointing defeats in Round 1 but there was more for Rathmolyon to take from their narrow defeat at the hands of Boardsmill than there was for Gaeil Colmcille to glean from their hefty loss at the hands of Kildalkey.  It will be difficult to look past the men from The Village in this encounter.

Kildalkey were in red hot form two weeks ago against Gaeil Colmcille and with seasoned campaigners such as Podge Geoghegan and Mairtín Doran leading their side, they will fancy their chances of backing up that victory against Navan O’Mahonys.  In Ratoath, Wolfe Tones who picked up a vital opening round win over Trim, take on a St. Peter’s Dunboyne side who field for the first time after not taking to the field of play against Kilskyre/Moylagh in Round 1.  On that evidence, the Ken Boyd managed side will fancy their chances of picking up a second win.

In the K Windows & Doors Junior Hurling Championship, Drumree host Clann na nGael and they will be hoping to make home advantage count.
