There are four fascinating finals on the cards this evening (Tuesday) across Divisions 3-6 in the Football Leagues as the battle for silverware reaches its denouement.
In the PS Supplies Doors & Floors Division 3 decider, it is a meeting of Senior and Junior as Rathkenny come up against St. Vincent’s. Rathkenny claimed the Intermediate honours in 2023 and will be looking to add further silverware this evening but know they are coming up against a side managed by a man who knows everything there is to know about the Boynesiders as the St.Vincent’s manager Paul McManus preceded Donal Curtis in the Rathkenny Bainisteoir bib. The Ardcath side have impressed to far this season and come into this game full of confidence. Logic decrees that Senior beats Junior but in finals, logic can often go out the window.
The JMB Sportsfield Services Division 4 Final sees Ratoath and Ballinlough going head to head. Ratoath came through a tough battle against Castletown after extra-time in their semi-final last week and they will be confident of claiming outright honours but they know that Ballinlough will be tough opponents. The North Meath side are well seasoned and it would be a notable League Double for many of their players should they succeed after Kilskyre/Moylagh ended their famine last month with their success.
It’s a repeat of the 2023 Coolrite JBFC Final in Simonstown when Slane and Moynalty meet in the Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 5 Final at 19:15. On that occasion, Slane ran out comfortable 2-10 to 0-10 winners after a devastating display of football but Moynalty will know that at their best there is little to separate these sides. Slane’s second team lost out in their final over the weekend, with a number of the starting XV from this evening playing in that game. Moynalty will be hoping their extra freshness could be pivotal in overturning last years Championship loss.
There is an East Meath derby in the Tommy Dowd Oil Football League Division 6 decider as St. Colmcille’s and Duleek-Bellewstown meet in Stamullen. The ‘Cilles topped their group with seven wins and one draw from their nine games as Duleek-Bellewstown came third with five wins and two draws but when they met in Round 2 on April 2 it was the Duleek-Bellewstown who edged a clinker by a solitary point, 1-13 to 1-12. A quick read of a post on their social media feed after their Division 8 win on Friday would give the impression that team manager Billy Bell has won everything bar the Liam McCarthy as manager in the club, can he add another trophy to his growing CV this evening?
