Football Leagues Round 2 Recap

There was a busy evening of action on Tuesday as the previously postponed Round 2 fixtures in the All County Football Leagues took place, with all bar one of the scheduled games going ahead as planned on this occasion. The fixture which failed to materialise being the Division 3A game in Ballinacree between St. Brigid’s and Simonstown Gaels as the visitors informed the host club on Tuesday evening that they were not in position to field. The game between the sides also failed to materialise in 2022 with St. Brigid’s receiving a walkover then too.

Table toppers Summerhill and Wolfe Tones both recorded impressive victories on the road with Summerhill being comprehensive winners away to Dunshaughlin and Wolfe Tones making the short journey to Grangegodden a fruitful on as they turned over Gaeil Colmcille.  Down towards the bottom of the table, the three teams propping up the table at present all lost, with Na Fianna being heavily defeated by an impressive Ratoath, Trim losing out narrowly on home soil to Simonstown Gaels and that aforementioned Dunshaughlin loss.

Ballinabrackey continued their impressive start to the season my maintaining their 100% record to date when comfortably accounting for the challenge of Oldcastle and they are joined at the top of the table by Duleek-Bellewstown who edged a tight encounter against Moynalvey to record their fourth win from five games.  Seneschalstown, who played last Friday night against St. Michael’s and picked up a win in Carlanstown also have eight points but Ballinabrackey have a game in hand on both sides.

At the foot of the table, Curraha, Moynalvey and Rathkenny all have two points but Rathkenny with four games played to date, have a game in hand over the other two clubs.

Meath Hill and St. Patrick’s have both played all their games in the six rounds scheduled to date and both are sitting pretty atop the table with six wins apiece and are leading the promotion charge.  Nestled in behind them are Dunsany and Nobber who have both played four games to date and have eight and seven points respectively.

St. Patrick’s were comprehensive winners away to Donaghmore/Ashbourne while Meath Hill made the long journey to Masterson Park a fruitful one as they accounted for St. Vincent’s by nine points.  Dunsany made light of the Bective challenge when running out double score winners in Bective and with a couple of games in hand they will be confident of mounting a charge for promotion.

JMB Sportsfield Services Division 2B

Division 2B is a difficult one to get a proper reading on at the moment with a disparity in games played among the clubs.  Some have only played twice while others have four games under their belt at present.

In the two games played on Tuesday, Carnaross picked up a second win from three games when defeating neighbours Ballinlough who have themselves a record of two wins from four games thus far.  The other game took place in Dunboyne and it saw the hosts edge a gripping encounter against Leinster JFC winners Castletown by a single point.  That result leaves St. Peter’s Dunboyne in second place on score difference behind St. Ultan’s who have played a game less.

Tommy Dowd Oil Division 3A

A youthful Kilbride side were very impressive winners over St. Colmcille’s, running out fourteen point victors in the end while Moylagh made the journey to Kilmainhamwood a worthwhile one as they ran out four point winners.  That walkover received by St. Brigid’s earned them a brace of points and as a result, they now sit alone in first place in the Division, a point ahead of Kilbride and Moylagh.

Tommy Dowd Oil Division 3B

In the sole fixture scheduled to be played in Division 3B on Tuesday, St. Mary’s traversed the county to take on Clonard in St. Finian’s Park and they came away with the win which leaves them well positioned in the race for promotion, just two points off Seneschalstown, Slane and Cortown who are all tied on eight points, with Navan O’Mahonys in pole position on ten points.
