Following the draw for the quarter finals of the Tailteann Cup which took place this morning (Monday) on Morning Ireland, Meath have been paired with Wexford and the game has been scheduled for a 16:00 throw in on Saturday next, June 17 in Páirc Tailteann.
This will be the first Championship meeting between the sides since 2013 and is only the fifth meeting of the counties in the Championship in over forty years with the sides having met in the Leinster SFC in 1981, 1994, 2008 and 2013.
The last meeting in 2013 was in the Leinster SFC semi-final on June 30 when Meath eventually ran out 0-18 to 0-13 winners, with Mickey Newman top scoring with 0-09. There are likely to be two surviving members of that side lining out for Meath on Saturday afternoon with Donal Keogan and Padraic Harnan having both been members of the defence ten years ago. Keogan lined out in his then customary right corner back berth while Harnan was at right half back having made his inter-county debut a fortnight earlier as a half time substitute against Wicklow.
The team and scorers from that 2013 game against Wexford were as follows:
Meath: Paddy O’Rourke; Donal Keogan; Kevin Reilly; Bryan Menton; Padraic Harnan; Caoimhín King; Seamus Kenny; Brian Meade; Conor Gillespie; Peadar Byrne (0-02); Damien Carroll; Graham Reilly (0-04); Eamon Wallace (0-01); Stephen Bray (0-02); Mickey Newman (0-09, 0-09F).
Substitutes Used: Joe Sheridan, Andrew Tormey, Ciaran Lenehan and Bryan McMahon.
