The concluding weekend of the group stages in the Meath Football Championships get underway this evening (Thursday) with Group C of the Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship and Group A of the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship, with all games throwing in at 20:00.
In the Fairyhouse Steel SFC, both Simonstown Gaels and St. Colmcille’s are assured of their place in the last eight but come into this encounter knowing that a place in Bowl 1 for the quarter finals is at stake as whoever comes out on top in Skryne will finish as group winners. St. Colmcille’s though have the slight safety net of knowing that a draw would be sufficient for them by virtue of their superior score difference.
In Ashbourne, there is a repeat of the 2023 Relegation Quarter Final when Seneschalstown and Na Fianna lock horns and both sides are already consigned to the relegation battle once more after disappointing openings to their Championships. Twelve months ago it was Seneschalstown who came out on top in Batterstown after a tough encounter. Which of these teams will pick up a confidence boosting win ahead of the dreaded relegation playoffs?
Group A of the Meade Farm IFC is intriguing with Meath Hill sitting atop the table with maximum points after two wins from two games but they are not yet guaranteed their place in the last eight. Should Blackhall Gaels defeat them in Duleek and Bective defeat Nobber in Ballinlough then all three sides will be tied on four points each and will have a win apiece over each other. Then it would be a case of get the calculators out.
Another potential permutation is that Meath Hill win, thereby guaranteeing top spot and Nobber win which would leave Bective, Blackhall Gaels and Nobber all tied on two points, with the calculators once more having to be used.
