Dramatic night in store

It’s Friday Night Lights and there’s the potential for a massively dramatic night of action to unfold in the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship as all four teams in Group C can potentially qualify for the last eight but one of them will find themselves consigned to the relegation dogfight.  There are also two games in store in Group A of the Coolrite Junior B Football Championship with St. Mary’s and Moynalty going head to head as they bid to top the group.

To say Group C of the Meade Farm Intermediate Football Championship is delicately poised is an understatement with any of the four clubs involved all in with a chance of qualifying should results go in their favour this evening.

Coming into the final round, Castletown sit on top with three points, Duleek-Bellewstown and Navan O’Mahonys have two apiece and St. Michael’s are propping up the table with one point.

The Clubber camera(s) will be in Simonstown for the meeting of last years defeated finalists Navan O’Mahonys and Castletown in what is a repeat of last year’s semi-final encounter that went down to the wire as O’Mahonys clung on to win out by 2-09 to 1-09, despite only registering one point in the closing twenty-two minutes.

The other game sees St. Michael’s making the long trek to Ashbourne for their meeting with Duleek-Bellewstown, who themselves are no strangers to final day drama after being knocked out at this stage twelve months ago when defeating Ballivor in the final round by one point when a two point winning margin would have sent the beaten finalists of 2022 and 2023 into the quarter finals.

The below Regulation from the GAA Official Guide could come in very handy this evening. 

• (1) The higher number of League Points obtained in the ‘Head-to-Head’ games defined as the games in which the teams involved in the tie have played each other.
• (2) The higher Scoring Difference (subtracting the total Scores Against from total Scores For) in the ‘Head-to-Head’ games.
• (3) The higher Scores For in the ‘Head-to- Head’ games.
• (4) If, having applied criteria (i) to (iii) inclusive, there are still teams with an equal ranking, criteria (i) to (iii) are applied to the ‘Head to Head’ games between the teams which remain tied.
• (5) The higher Scoring Difference in all games in the League Group.
• (6) The higher Scores For in all games in the League Group.
• (7) A Play-Off.
• Games Awarded Without Score (e.g., a walk -over) Involved in a Tie-Breaker Team Awarded Game. Its ‘Average Score For’ and ‘Average Score Against’ achieved in games played ( in Head-to-Head or All the Group as applicable) shall be added to its ‘Score For’ and ‘Scores Against’ totals. Team Against whom Game was Awarded.  It shall have zero added to its ‘Score For’. Its ‘Average Score Against’ conceded in games played (in Head-to-Head or All Group, as applicable) shall be added to its ‘Score Against’ total.
