There is a small programme of games on the schedule on Friday evening with the Meade Farm IFC quarter final Navan derby meeting of O’Mahonys and Bective along with the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation JFC quarter final between contenders Dunsany and Ballinlough taking centre stage while off Broadway in Duleek, Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Seneschalstown meet in the Fairyhouse Steel SFC Relegation Playoff quarter final.

The year was 1999, Meath were All-Ireland Champions, the average house price in Ireland was £97,975, Gay Byrne retired from hosting The Late Late Show after 37 years, Sean Keating was a promising young child with Navan O’Mahonys and Bective last played in the IFC quarter finals.

A quarter of a century on, much has changed, Meath haven’t won the All-Ireland SFC since, the average house price is now over €330,000, Patrick Kielty hosts The Late Late Show, Sean Keating is now corner forward for Bective and Bective are back in the last eight of the IFC.

But can they defeat their more highly vaunted Navan rivals in Simonstown?

To do so, the David Nolan managed side will need to produce their best display of the season against an O’Mahonys side who disappointed in Round 1 but bounced back with two excellent performances in the subsequent rounds to defeat St. Michael’s and KIlbride to book their place in the quarter finals.

The McConnell brothers, Cathal and Ciaran along with David Donnelly form an exciting half forward line and in the inside line, Con Smith is a richly talented young player.  If the Bective forwards can get a good enough supply of ball then they have all the tools required to do major damage.

O’Mahonys have an impressive midfield pairing of Mike O’Reilly and Conor Brady and the Brews Hill outfit will look to this pairing to get the upperhand in the exchanges around the middle third.  If that happens, then the inside forward line of Oisín O’Brien, Duggie Dillon and Ivo Fitzherbert will be in clover.

Cortown is the venue for the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accomodation JFC quarter final meeting of Dunsany and Ballinlough.  Dunsany are always contenders and have been impressive to date with wins over Kilmainham and Clann na nGael.

In Kevin Cahill, they have a shrewd individual patrolling the sidelines and they will look to the likes of Harry Cahill, Declan Smyth and Pauric Burke to lead the way while the ace in their pack at centre forward is Eoin Harkin.

Ballinlough come into this game off the back of an impressive dismantling of near neighbours St. Brigid’s a fortnight ago and they have a nice blend of youth and experience.  Oisín McDermott at centre back will have a ding dong battle with Harkin should that match-up come to being and Daire Shine who shot the lights out against the Ballinacree outfit will once more be expected to lead the way in attack.  Robbie Farrell at full back and Seánie Geragghty who is named at top of the left but likely to play everywhere else, are two other key men.

Seneschalstown got the draw nobody wanted in the Relegation Playoff Quarter Final of the Fairyhouse Steel SFC when pulling Donaghmore/Ashbourne for the second time in three seasons.

There are few who would not have the ‘Moors in the top six sides in the county and they were unlucky not to get out of a very tough group.

It would be a surprise if they weren’t safe come 21:30 this evening but you can never rule Seneschalstown out.
