Bank Holiday Weekend action draws to a conclusion

The August Bank Holiday Weekend action in the Hurling Championships draws to a conclusion on Sunday with four games on the schedule, two in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim sponsored Senior grade and two in the JM Food Services Intermediate Championship with games spread out between 12:00 and 16:00.

The first game on the cards in the Senior Championship sees free scoring Trim coming up against a Clann na nGael side who lost out to Kilmessan on the opening weekend of fixtures before bouncing back by defeating St. Peter’s Dunboyne a week ago.  Trim line out today minus the services of James Toher at centre back, with Caelum Casserly dropping back to fill the centre back role but they welcome back James Murray and Darragh Heffernan who missed last weeks comfortable victory over Dunderry.

The second Senior Hurling game is sure to draw a good crowd with Rathmolyon which is nestled between Longwood and Na Fianna chosen as the venue for the 16:00 throw in. Longwood opened the Championship with a good win over Blackhall Gaels before losing out to Killyon in Round 2.  It has been more of a struggle to date for Na Fianna and they are currently bottom of the table with zero points.

In Group A of the JM Food Services IHC, Drumree have been flying with two wins from two games and know a win today would leave them sitting pretty alongside Navan O’Mahonys on six points.  Gaeil Colmcille though know that a win for them would shake the table up and leave three sides tied on four points, two behind O’Mahonys. It’s all to play for in Kilmessan.

The second of the IHC games sees Rathmolyon and Dunderry meet at 12:00 in Dunderry.  In last years Championship, Rathmolyon needed to defeat Kildalkey in the final group game of last years Championship to book their place in the knockout stages and duly did so on a scoreline of (0-21) to (1-14) but it proved to be somewhat of a false flag as Kildalkey went on to win the Championship.  The side from The Village have started well this year with two wins from two and come into today’s game full of confidence but last years champions will prove a tough nut to crack in what could be a high noon showdown to savour.
