Meath GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee held their 3rd Annual Gathering of Healthy Club Officers in the Meath GAA Centre in Dunganny last Monday evening (20th Feb). Close on seventy people were in attendance, representing more than 40 clubs. Members of Coiste na Mhi Management Committee were also in attendance.

Those present heard presentations from Mary Meade (Syddan GFC) on how a Healthy Club Officer can benefit a small rural club; while Gillian McMahon (Duleek-Bellewstown GFC) outlined the benefits of a Healthy Club Officer in a highly populated area. Andy Ogle of the North East Drug Task Force discussed the GAA policy on Substance Use while, Sergeant Patrick Smith (Crime Prevention Officer Meath Division) outlined the consequences for young players getting involved in substance abuse.

Carmel Halpin (HSE) and Ruairi Murphy (MLSP) outlined the supports their organisations make available to GAA clubs and to the wider community in ensuring a strong health and wellbeing environment among the GAA Communities in Meath.

Aideen Howlin (Croke Park) congratulated Meath GAA Health and Wellbeing Committee in organising such a successful event and outlined upcoming developments nationally in this area.

The evening’s proceedings were moderated by Meath Health and Wellbeing Chairman James Kelly (St. Colmcille’s).
