All on the line for the reigning champions

The concluding weekend of the group stage action in the Meath Club Football Championships draws to an end today (Sunday) with two groups of the Fairyhouse Steel Senior Football Championship reaching their denouement along with Group B of the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation Junior Football Championship.

Group A of the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation JFC will conclude on Wednesday after Saturday’s games were postponed due to a tragedy in Nobber.

Skryne and Summerhill meet in Group A of the Fairyhouse Steel SFC at 16:00 in Páirc Tailteann and while Skryne sit top of the table with two wins from two games to date, there is no guarantee that the Tara side will progress to the last eight. Should Summerhill defeat them and Gaeil Colmcille defeat St. Peter’s Dunboyne in Trim then all three teams would be tied on four points with a mini table needed to separate them.

Were Skryne to win and St. Peter’s Dunboyne defeat Gaeil Colmcille then a mini table would be required to separate the teams on two points. Calculators to the ready.

In Group C, the reigning champions Dunshaughlin are in danger of crashing out and they remain short of some of their key defenders from last years side.

These are the permutations presuming none of the games end in a draw.

Trim have impressed with two wins from two, Rathkenny who defeated Dunshaughlin on the opening weekend are in action at the same time against winless Meath Hill.

If Dunshaughlin & Rathkenny win, it’s a mini table between Dunshaughlin, Rathkenny and Trim to decide who goes through to the last eight.

If Trim and Rathkenny win, they go through to the quarter finals.

If Dunshaughlin and Meath Hill win, it’s Trim and Dunshaughlin who go through.

If Trim and Meath Hill win, Trim go through as winners and there is a mini table between Dunshaughlin, Meath Hill and Rathkenny to decide who goes through as group runners up.

Ballinlough are in the driving seat in Group B of the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accommodation JFC with two wins from two and anything other than a defeat to St. Ultan’s will guarantee their progression to the knockout stages. Were that result to come to pass, the game between Dunderry and Kilmainham will turn into a winner takes all battle.
