Senior and Intermediate Hurling Championship Results and Knockout Fixtures

There were anxious glances at X (social media platform formally known as Twitter), phone calls around the grounds and everything you might expect from final round games this weekend as clubs desperately sought to discover how other games in their groups were faring and would their own performances be enough to garner the final position in the group that they desperately sought.

One of the greatest plot twists came in Group B of the J.M. Food Services Intermediate Hurling Championship where, having received a walkover from St. Patrick’s, members of Kilskyre/Moylagh were in Páirc Tailteann to take in the game between Rathmolyon and Boardsmill.  For a long time it appeared as though Boardsmill would come away with the two points on offer but a late resurgence from the Andrew Dermody managed Rathmolyon saw them salvage a draw at the death.  That result, coupled with the win for Kildalkey over Trim in Athboy, broke the hearts of the Kilskyre/Moylagh crew as they saw their Championship aspirations evaporate before their eyes.

In the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear Senior Hurling Championship, Group B saw Ratoath turn in a scintillating display to overcome Killyon by twenty-five points.  That result, coupled with the smaller winning margin for Kiltale over Longwood, was enough to see last years beaten finalists top their group and secure straight passage through to the semi-finals.  Kiltale finished second in the group and Killyon third.

Those results see Kildalkey meeting Kiltale in the quarter final and Kilmessan facing Killyon in the second quarter final after they Kilmessan and Kildalkey finished second and third respectively in Group A.  Trim topped the group after all three sides finished level on points, with the competition regulations decreeing that a mini table using the results between the three sides be used to separate them.

Group A of the Intermediate Hurling Championship saw Drumree finish top by virtue of the head to head rule which was in their favour over Navan O’Mahonys after defeating the 2023 beaten finalists in Round 4.  Donaghmore/Ashbourne finished third to secure the third knockout spot.
