The middle weekend of the group stages of the Football Championships saw some surprise results, some shocks and some statement performances on what was a very exciting weekend of action despite the poor weather conditions which affected matches.
Dunshaughlin defeating Summerhill by two points in the Fairyhouse Steel SFC was eye-catching as the 2022 IFC winners made a statement that they are going to be serious contenders for the Keegan Cup this year. Last years beaten semi-finalists Donaghmore/Ashbourne got back into the reckoning with a Friday night win over Ballinabrackey and they now meet Summerhill in Round 3 with the ‘Hill knowing nothing less than a win would see them go crashing out.
In what was perceived to the Group of Death in the Meade Farm IFC, St. Patrick’s were taken out by a brilliant Cillian O’Sullivan winner as Moynalvey & Oldcastle progressed to the quarter finals and St. Patrick’s, many peoples idea of the winners at the outset of the Championship, now prepare for the relegation quarter finals, a fate that could also await Duleek-Bellewstown, who were finalists in 2022 and 2023.
St. Vincent’s impressed in the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accomodation JFC when defeating St. Brigid’s and there is a lot to play for still in that group after Dunderry and Ballinlough drew.
In the Coolrite JBFC, Drumconrath impressed in defeating Eastern Gaels and Carnaross brought their shooting boots to Sean Newman Park.
