The picture is getting cleared in the Hurling Championships with the penultimate round of group action across the various championships having taken place over the course of the weekend with thrills and spills aplenty as the action heated up.
Kilmessan lit up the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship on Saturday when defeating Trim in the first of the 26 Championship games to be shown this year as part of our new agreement with Clubber. Three first half goals proved crucial in the win as the Nicky Horan managed side claimed a landmark win as the clubs improvement continues.
Clann na nGael overcame a 2 point half time deficit at half time to eventually defeat Dunderry by 10 points in Athboy and Kildalkey had a comfortable win over St. Peter’s Dunboyne in Trim on Friday.
That leaves a three way tie at the top of the table with Trim, Kilmessan and Kildalkey all on six points while Clann na nGael aren’t out of the equation of qualifying for the knockout stages on four points with a final round game to come against Kildalkey.
In Group B, there was a thriller in Páirc Tailteann as Ratoath came from behind to defeat Longwood by the minimum and Kiltale did similar against Na Fianna in Batterstown as they ran out eleven point winners over Na Fianna. That result puts them one point to the good over Ratoath on score difference with both sides tied on 7 points. The top side in the group will progress directly to the semi-final. This battle is one to keep a close eye on in two weeks time.
The third game in the group saw Killyon book a knockout spot when defeating Blackhall Gaels by double scores, 0-24 to 1-09 on Friday in Rathmolyon.
