Following on from a dramatic evening of games on Friday evening, there is an attractive programme of fixtures on the cards on Saturday evening in the Meath Hurling Championships with six games scheduled to take place although the Competitions Control Committee (CCC) will be keeping an anxious eye on the weather with conditions not looking favourable for much of the day.
Note the JM Food Services Intermediate Hurling Championship Group A game between Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Wolfe Tones will now be played in Ashbourne as Ratoath has failed a pitch inspection.
Two weeks ago a number of fixtures fell by the wayside thanks to waterlogged pitches and a repeat of this would leave fixture makers with a migraine.
One fixture which has already fallen by the wayside is the JM Food Services Intermediate Hurling Championship Group B game between Kiskyre/Moylagh and Kilmessan which was scheduled to be played at 18:30 in Dunderry, with Kilmessan having sent in notice that they will not be in a position to fulfil the fixture. This is the second walkover Kilskyre/Moylagh have received thus far in the competition from three games.
The Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear SHC and JM Food Services IHC games are all ticket and are priced as follows.
- General Admission – €10
- Student/OAP – €5
- Children U-16 accompanied by an adult attend for free.

In the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship, Kiltale and Na Fianna meet in Trim at 16:30. Kiltale were disappointing when losing out to Trim on the opening weekend but bounced back to winning ways in Round 2 as they accounted for the challenge of Ratoath. Na Fianna put Kildalkey to the pin of their collar for long spells in Round 1 and turned in a creditable showing against Trim two weeks ago and having faced off against what is by many the perceived top two teams in the Championship, will be confident of picking up the two points on offer in Trim.
There are three games on the cards in the JM Food Services sponsored Intermediate Hurling Championship, one in Group A and two in Group B. In Group A Rathmolyon who are one of the teams to lose a game to the elements two weeks ago travel to Batterstown to play Drumree. Drumree have opened the Championship in an impressive manner, accumulating three points out of a possible four and will come into this game full of confidence while Rathmolyon fell to a disappointing defeat at the hands of near neighbours Boardsmill a month ago. A victory is imperative for the men from The Village but they will face a stiff task against an in-form Drumree outfit.
In Group B at 18:30, Donaghmore/Ashbourne and Wolfe Tones meet in Ratoath with both sides currently with a win and a loss apiece to their name. Wolfe Tones have been boosted in recent weeks as their county football contingent have returned to the fold and they will be looking to push on and pick up a vital win while Donaghmore/Ashbourne will be smarting from their defeat to Kilskyre/Moylagh a fortnight ago. There is a wealth of young talent coming through in the club and this married with the experience provided by the likes of player/manager Colm Ó Méalóid and Andrew Tormey could make this a potent mix. The other Group B fixture which goes ahead is the meeting of St. Peter’s Dunboyne and Trim. St. Peter’s Dunboyne couldn’t field in Round 1 but bounced back when defeating Wolfe Tones while Trim lost out to the Tones on the opening weekend before bouncing back in impressive fashion when blitzing Kilmessan in Round 2.
The solitary Round 3 fixture this evening in the K Windows & Doors Junior Hurling Championship takes place on the East Coast when St. Patrick’s welcome Kildalkey to Stamullen. Both of these sides have two points garnered to date with Kildakey having played just once, their Round 2 meeting with Drumree was another to fall by the wayside thanks to the monsoon like rain two weeks ago. St. Patrick’s lost out narrowly to Killyon in Round 1 before turning Ratoath over in Stamullen on the morning of the All-Ireland Hurling Final. They will be hopeful home advantage might prove crucial here.
