The January weather which arrived in the middle of July wreaked havoc with the best laid plans of the fixture makers but in the end after a frantic day of phone calls trying to source alternate venues as pitches fell foul of the torrential rain, all three games scheduled for Friday evening took place in the Balreask Bar, Restaurant & Guest Accomodation Junior Football Championship and the Coolrite Junior B Football Championship.
Boardsmill and Gaeil Colmcille stepped in at the eleventh hour to host games which ensured no fixtures were lost and in Boardsmill, Dunsany came out on top in a low scoring affair against St. Ultan’s to get their campaign off to the best possible start. Might this finally be the year where they claim Junior glory following years of near miss after near miss.
Castletown’s pitch stood up very well to the incessant rain and Kilmainhamwood enjoyed an excellent evening as they defeated St. Mary’s by four points, 2-10 to 0-12 in the Coolrite JBFC.
The second game in the Coolrite JBFC saw 2022 beaten semi-finalists Drumconrath get the better of Clonard in a tight encounter which was played in Grangegodden. Might they go a step further in this years Championship?
