Colm O’Rourke has made two changes to the Meath starting XV for Sunday’s eagerly anticipated Allianz Football League Round 2 encounter with Clare from that which took to the pitch in Cork last weekend. Adam O’Neill and Diarmuid Moriarty both make their inaugural League starts as they replace James O’Hare and Mathew Costello. Costello drops out of the match day panel with Aaron Lynch coming onto the bench. Should Lynch come on during the game, he would be making a first appearance in the League.
Last Sunday’s victory over Cork was a positive start to what is already shaping up to be a very competitive Division and with Clare also having gotten off to the perfect start when defeating Louth, both sides are coming into this weeks game looking to build some early momentum.
When these sides met in last years League, it was nip and tuck throughout and it took a late, late point from James Conlon to separate the teams. Another close encounter is anticipated in Páirc Tailteann on Sunday and it could very well be that the supporters make a vital difference as they get behind the team. It was noticeable in Páirc Uí Chaoimh that the Meath supporters greatly outnumbered the Cork support and the vocal travelling support was greatly appreciated by the management and players.
We hope to hear a big Meath crowd get behind the team in a similar fashion on Sunday and it could well be that the home support may be the difference if Meath are to pick up a second win of the campaign.
