Weekend two of the Hurling Championships gets underway in earnest

After the appetiser of four games in the K Windows & Doors Junior B Hurling Championship on Thursday evening, the action moves up a few gears on Friday in the Club Hurling Championships with five games down for decision across the various grades.

After a spirited performance against Trim on the opening weekend where they fell short of getting a share of the spoils, Na Fianna have a tough task ahead against reigning champions Ratoath in the Ted Murtagh Clothing & Footwear, Trim Senior Hurling Championship.

Rory Fagan returns to the side for Pierce O’Leary’s charges and he will bring additional firepower and he forms an exciting inside line of their attack alongside Eoin Bright and Patrick Jordan who occupy the corner forward berths.

Ratoath will feel like they slipped up a fortnight ago when drawing with Kilmessan and will travel to Devenish Park, Dunganny eager to pick up a first win of the Championship.  As always, Padraig O’Hanrahan will be crucial with his accuracy from dead balls but if the Na Fianna inside line of the attack is dangerous, then so too is the Ratoath line with the McGowan brothers Gavin and Daithí along with Cian Rogers.

Two sides who got off to the perfect start on the opening weekend of the Abbey Pharmacy sponsored Intermediate Hurling Championship meet at 19:30 in Batterstown as Drumree and Donaghmore/Ashbourne face off.

Drumree were very impressive when defeating St. Peter’s Dunboyne by seven points in Ratoath while Donaghmore/Ashbourne took care of a fancied Clann na nGael outfit when defeating them by the minimum in Boardsmill.  A victory here for either side would see them take a massive step towards a place in the knockout stages.
