2020 LMFM Meath MFC Previews
Division 5 – Blackhall Gaels, Dunderry, Inny Gaels, Longwood, Moynalty/Carnaross, Round Towers, Simonstown (B), St. Vincent’s/Curraha.
The top two sides in Division 5A and Division 5B progress to the semi-finals with top in 5A playing second in 5B and top in 5B playing second in 5A. The third-placed team in 5A plays the fourth-placed team in 5B in the Shield semi-final with the third-placed team in 5B playing the fourth in 5A.
Division 5A – Blackhall Gaels, Dunderry, Simonstown (B), St. Vincent’s/Curraha
Blackhall Gaels – Keegan Cup winner Mark Crampton dons the Bainisteoir bib for the Blackhall Gaels Minors and he will be looking to bring this crop of players through to the club’s adult team over the next few years. If they can pick up some silverware in the process, then it’s a bonus but the main aim will be to bring on the next generation of stars in the
Batterstown/Kilcloon area.
Manager – Mark Crampton. Selectors – Brian McDonald, Tony Forde & Robert Jennings.
Captain – Kealan Forde.
Dunderry – Trying to predict what way a teams season can go is a fool’s errand and that rings through with Dunderry as much as anyone when the form to go on consists of a solitary game which was played way back on February 12. That was a thrilling 3-12 apiece draw away to St. Vincent’s/Curraha but the word from a few shrewd judges is that this Dunderry side are
capable of showing very well.
Manager – Paddy Darcy. Selectors – Barry Sheridan, Stephen Coogan & Christy Coogan.
Captain – Daniel Egenton.
Simonstown (B) – Their coaches have proven their worth on the playing fields for many years now and are now leading by example as they turn their hand to coaching the next crop of Simonstown stars. Simonstown have done well with their second teams at various age grades in recent times and with the club going well at all ages, it would be no surprise to see Shane O’Rourke moulding a team capable of performing to a high standard.
Manager – Shane O’Rourke. Selectors – Robbie Burlingham & Brian McGrath.
Captain – TBC.
St. Vincent’s/Curraha – The Ardcath/Curraha outfit are a very solid team and their Round 1 encounter with Simonstown has the look of a very attractive opening-round game. They were 2020 LMFM Meath MFC Previews
showing signs of impressive form back in February and if they can rediscover that level of performance then the Seamus McEntee managed team are ones to watch.
Manager – Seamus McEntee. Selectors – Donal Young & Pauric O’Dowd.
Captain – Michael Young.
Division 5B – Inny Gaels, Longwood, Moynalty/Carnaross, Round Towers
Inny Gaels – His football year started off as a selector with the Meath U-20 football side and will end as he looks to bring through the next crop of St. Brigid’s and Moylagh stars as the manager of the Inny Gaels Minors. Team manager Martin Blake will look to Dylan Briody and Luke Blake to lead the charge for the side and Inny Gaels look to have the raw materials
needed to go close to success.
Manager – Martin Blake. Selectors – Martin Briody & Ray Gibney.
Captain – Mark Gibney.
Longwood – Having two of their three games in the Championship on home turf is a boon for Longwood who have been motoring nicely in some recent challenge encounters. A busy schedule lies in store for many of the players given the dual nature of the club with the U-15 competitions commencing and their Minor Hurlers having a League semi-final next week.
How they deal with that schedule will go a long way towards deciding their fate.
Manager – Stephen King. Selector – Aaron Ennis.
Team Captain – Sean Crum.
Moynalty/Carnaross – Numbers are tight for the combination outfit but sometimes that can breed a tighter sense of unity in a group. Much might depend on how they fare in their Round 1 encounter against Inny Gaels. A win there could set them up nicely for a tilt at the Championship.
Manager – Kevin Gilsenan. Selectors – Pat Smyth, Patrick Brady, Kevin Gilsenan. Team
Captain – Peter Olwill.
Round Towers – Recorded a couple of wide-margin victories in the Spring League and have the look of a team to watch out for in the race for the Christy Reynolds Cup. If they can get their key players to remain injury-free, then the Drumbaragh/Kilmainham outfit will have a major say in where the trophy winters.
Manager – Noel Corcoran. Selectors – Liam Ward, Adrian Corcoran & Wayne Hennessy.
Joint Captains – Eoin Meegan & Luke Galligan.
